From DAC 2019: HPC Pros Workshop on Containerisation, Cloud Migration and System Telemetry

For the first time at DAC, HPC Pros held a workshop.  We had three companies present, Ellexus, the IO Profiling Company, Sylabs, the creators of Singularity Containers for HPC and Rescale, a trusted Cloud platform to several HPC industries.  It was a great session with lots of compelling content which allowed our attendees to get a glimpse beyond just what they have available to them today.  At HPC Pros, our mission is to help inform companies of new, exciting and actionable technologies which they can use to improve the productivity of their companies.  This workshop delivered on that promise.

Out of that workshop came this great white paper called “EDA in the cloud:  Containerisation, migration and system telemetry”.

The white paper,co-written by Dr. Rosemary Francis, CEO of Ellexus, the IO Profiling Company, and Derek Magill, Executive Director of the Association of High Performance Computing Professionals, walks through practical advice for any company looking to take their demanding HPC workloads and run them on the Cloud.  EDA workflows in particular have a long lineage of on-premise optimizations which require re-examination to run in a Cloud context.  Tools like Breeze and Mistral from Ellexus help unravel decades of dependencies and give clarity on what NFS paths must go to the Cloud as well as their performance characteristics.

We hope this white paper helps give you the foundational knowledge you need to have a successful Cloud engagement.
